Obituary of David Shipley
August 2, 1954 - March 1, 2025
Here for a good time, not a long time, David Brian Shipley of Shallow Lake passed away suddenly in his 70th year. Proud father of Sarah Miller and her husband George of Crowsnest Pass, Jeff Shipley and his wife Jessie of Shallow Lake, and doting grandfather to their son, Jett. Predeceased by his parents, Beverley and Georgina Shipley of Shallow Lake, and survived by his sister, Kathleen Cooke, of Beamsville. He will be especially missed by Holly, his much beloved orange cat.
Per our Dad's final wishes, there will be no service. For those who'd like to honour our Dad, we can think of no better way to do so than to live a little as he did. Catch an Attack game or a play at The Roxy. Enjoy a band at Massey Hall. Dance the night away at Summerfolk. Take in all the Salmon Spectacular has to offer. Reconnect with old friends. Make new ones. Travel. Explore the great outdoors. Plant a garden. Get weirdly passionate about harvesting tomatillos and other such obscure vegetables. Join a club. (Or several! We know he particularly enjoyed his billiards, photography, and walking clubs.) Buy an E-bike. Read to your grandkids. Spoil them. Learn to kayak. Volunteer. Hang a hummingbird feeder or two or ten. (Over decades, Dad managed to lure hummingbirds to his yard in swarms. Dozens of them, if not hundreds. This sizable population of ruby-throated hummingbirds will be especially hungry and searching for a new host in Shallow Lake this spring.) End more nights around campfires, waxing poetic about the good ol' days. Start conversations with strangers. Swap television subscriptions for magazine subscriptions. Try new recipes. Share them with reckless abandon. Saddle up next to your feline friend and admire the parade of wildlife just outside your window. Find big joy in small things. In Dad's honour, pack as much into this life as you possibly can.
Final arrangements entrusted to the DOWNS AND SON FUNERAL HOME, Hepworth. Expressions of remembrance can be made to World Wildlife Fund Canada. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family through www.downsandsonfuneralhome.com
