Obituary of Glen Elliott

Peacefully with his family at his side, Glen died on Monday, July 29, 2013 in his 81st year at the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce, Owen Sound. His journey with cancer ended a short 7 weeks after his diagnosis. Glen was predeceased by his wife, the former Rhoda Walker (2008) and his mother Mae McCall (2011). He is survived by his 3 children, Carol Ann Elliott (the late Michael Armstrong 2012) of Victoria, B.C., Lynn Pendlebury (Simon) of Oakville and David Elliott (Pam) of Green Bay, Wisconsin, as well as 4 grandchildren James, Laura, Colin and Charlie. He leaves behind his friend Nancy Armstrong of Wiarton - a wonderful companion. Survived by sisters-in-law Shirley Davidson (the late Jim) and Carol Gates (Glenn) as well as nieces and nephews. Glen started his career with the Royal Bank at the age of 17, working in several locations in Ontario before being transferred to Vancouver, Montreal, Winnipeg and Toronto. Glen and Rhoda moved to the family cottage at Sauble Beach, when Glen retired in 1989, after 40 years of service with the bank. Glen then put his considerable talents to work for the community, serving on boards for the Grey-Bruce Health Services, CCAC, and Community Futures Development Corporation, as well as other local community projects. His volunteer commitment with the United Church of Canada spanned over 45 years, at both the local and national level. Friends may call at the DOWNS AND SON FUNERAL HOME, Hepworth on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service to honour Glen's life will be conducted from the Zion Amabel United Church, Sauble Beach on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Gerry Hofstetter officiating. Interment Zion Cemetery. Expressions of remembrance to the United Church of Canada or Owen Sound Hospital Foundation would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
