To Carl, Janice and Bill's kids.
Bill and I were in the same class at school for 10 years. We graduated from Grade 12 with Joan Miller, Wray McDonald and Allan Rowe the last year that Allenford Contiuation School operated. I have great memories of our time in school together. Bill kept us laughing with his sharp mind and quick wit. We had great times growing up in a small "town" with lots of freedom to enjoy our friends.
I was lucky to connect with Bill again in the mid 80's when I was on council in Amabel. That sharp mind and quick wit (Bill had a perfect sense of timing) made him an invaluable asset to the commuinty he served. He was a wealth of knowledge and had the people skills to be able to work with staff and the politicians who came and went. He held it all together for the community.
His kids were his greatest treasures. I know you will miss him. I am glad I grew up with Bill. Gayle

I am saddened to learn of Bill's passing. We were friends from our years in the public (elementary) and continuation school in Allenford where I grew up. Bill and Carl came to Allenford for school and other activities, like baseball. We all grew up together in the 1950s --early 1960s. My memories of that time persist, and during the years after I was a consulting engineer, talking with Bill in Amabel Twp. Last talked to him in summer 2015 in Tara at a get-together of "70 and near 70ers" at a friend's home. Bill, you will be missed by all of us. All my best to Carl and Janice, and families.

Bill was a great mentor to his municipal colleagues. When I started my career with the Township of Saugeen I found myself contacting Bill on numerous occasions for guidance and assistance. He was always willing to share his knowledge and experiences and more often than not - he would share a good story. My sincerest condolences.

Bill was our golf buddy for so many years. Mike Albert ,Bill Gregory, Bill and myself had wonderful times at Pinewoods and Northern Dunes golf clubs.
He was always up for a number of local tournaments that we entered and on occasion, met with some success
He wasn't able to join us the last couple of years and we missed his company and humour.
Quiet, private, knowledgeable, and always with the dry sense of humour. He did love to laugh.
He will be missed by not only us, but a large number of people that he touched through his, golf, family and working career.
Our sincerest condolescences.

Hello Shelly, Rob, Jenny, Kristy and James & Jackie
I'm very sorry and sad to hear of your fathers passing, and felt that I should tell you that your father meant the world to me. He was a true co-worker and friend to me, he was the smartest Clerk in Grey Bruce, and I never stopped learning from him even after moving to Hanover. He helped me survive as Amabel's first Chief Building Official to be appointed under the 1975 Ontario Building Code, and with his enchanting ability to deal with the Legislative and Political environment we accomplished our goals and objectives together, and believe me no other Municipal Employees could ever dream of doing that, some public, some private, and of course some sad but mostly humorous.
We worked and played together for many years, I watched your Dad get a hole-in-one at the Pine Tree, and we had a chance to play golf in Kentucky, I will always be indebted to your father for giving me the knowledge and ability to survive as a civil servant.
Please accept our condolences, and the very best to you and the whole Johnston Family.

Bill was a wonderful, knowledgeable man who I was lucky to work with in municipal government. His even temperament, laugh, broad knowledge base and sense of humour were missed when he retired. He was a man who knew all there was to know about Amabel and South Bruce Peninsula. We were glad that he was able to enjoy himself golfing after he retired from the municipal world. I am so sorry for your loss.

By deepest sympathies. I worked with Bill for a great many years and always appreciated his work ethic, sense of humour and especially his knowledge of the municipality's history. I was, also always amazed at his ability to find what he was looking for in the mounds of paper on his desk.

It is with a very sad heart that I offer my deepest condolences to everyone in the Johnston Family. While I knew Bill, I didn't have the honour of getting to know Bill well, I feel I knew him best through his daughter Kristy. Through her, I know that Bill was a good, kind and loving man. I also know that he meant a great deal to her and her family. And to Kristy and her family, remember I'm always here for you. May God watch over all of you and ease your pain.
R.I.P. Bill. You will be very deeply missed by many.
